Follow This Fellow

Okay, so. I have never blogged before and I graduated with a science major. Creative writing is not my strong suit, but bear with me. I'll do my best considering I haven't taken a writing class for four years, but as long as you're patient I am hoping to have some cool stories to share (and a picture speaks a thousand words, so I'll try to make a point to do more showing than telling). I will be working as an Israel Service Fellow in Akko starting at the end of August until the following summer! People keep asking me what I will actually be doing in Israel, but the great thing about Ma'ase Olam is that they give you so much flexibility and let you personalize your service. I won't know my exact project until a few weeks into the program, but I am hoping to find a school that will help me sponsor a science seminar for students that are not receiving an adequate public school education. I will also likely have some other projects that focus on the community as a whole in addition to ulpan, tours of the country, and lessons about Israel and the Middle East!

Andddd I am really hoping to improve my Hebrew, so I will probably start incorporating some Ivrit (Hebrew), but I fully expect to make absurd mistakes. I apologize in advance, but the best way to learn is to keep trying, right? And yes, you may have my permission to laugh anyways. That's why I included that handy-dandy translation bar on the side ---> let's hope google is up to the test! נא לתקן את הטעויות שלי אבל אל תשכחו להיות נחמד.

Plane tickets were bought! It's really going to happen :) Departure date: August 26th. So why am I already writing a blog post? Two words: Camp Ramah! I will be working at camp for the first time this summer, and I cannot wait! But I am trying to get things organized for Israel before I go, and I have endless hours of empty time to fill sitting at home, so my excitement is spilling out onto the internet.  Another good reason to start now is that my first installment of Ma'ase Olam's Follow the Fellows Campaign is ready for your viewing pleasure!  You can see the rest of the fellows here: Follow the Fellows. Each participant in Israel Service Fellows and Israel Teaching Fellows will make three videos or blog posts for before, during, and after our trip! I probably won't have much to post until the end of the summer, so until then, later alligators! להתראות!
